The conditions for the state meet were near perfect for November 4th. This meant that times would be fast and our athletes would need to be at their best in order to compete well against the field that had been assembled. Freshman Aubrey Scott went through the mile in 6:18 and kicked it into gear to move up against the competition. She went from 52nd at the mile all the way to 27th place at the 2-mile. After the 2-mile, athletes travel up a series of challenging hills that tests the will of even the most skilled athletes. Aubrey did the best she could but faded 6 places up the hill to finish 33rd. Aubrey's time of 20:45 was the eight fastest time by a Chick on the state course. Aubrey is the 4th fastest Chick in state history behind Jamie Haffner, Lindsey Borgstadt, and Lauren Larkins.
With the boys not scoring as a team, our goal going into the race was to make a run at an individual all-state honor which is achieved by placing in the top 25. While we ultimately fell short of that goal, both the athletes and myself gained valuable experience that will impact our race strategy for the state meet. Landon Fatino was the top Rooster finisher with a 37th place finish. He was the 2nd freshman to finish in Class 3. His time of 17:23 ranks him 7th overall in Rooster History. Seniors Shawn Gallagher (59th) and Jerod Rottinghaus (104th) ended their high school career knowing that they gave their best effort on that day. They have left a positive mark on the Roosters and Chicks program and will be remembered for their outstanding leadership and team mentality. Results: Girls - 33rd Aubrey Scott 20:45.8 Boys - 37th Landon Fatino 17:23.7 59th Shawn Gallagher 17:47.4 104th Jerod Rottinghaus 18:20.1
